Sunday, July 28, 2002: Transfer Day

The cat spent the night in the garage. We sleep in. We decide to go out for breakfast since supplies are gone. A small outdoor restaurant at Donner Lake is the ticket. It's a sunny comfortable 80 degree day.

We climb the hill to Trey's for the last time, this time in the Explorer. It's much more comfortable. The rest of the morning is spent house cleaning, showering, packing and doing the final load of laundry. We pack the cars and go to the airport. Check-in is quick and security is easy. Shortly after take off we hear the landing gear come down again. The pilot comes on and says they needed to cool the tires since the runway was so hot. I hope they're not Firestones. The flight to Denver is smooth.

In Denver we transfer to our flight to Columbus. The pilot announces that there are thunderstorm over Kansas and will take a more southerly route. We take off about 20 minutes late. Out of the left side of the plane we can see the clouds light up. The tops of the storms are above us over 30,000 feet. The display is awesome. We arrive in Columbus about 40 minutes late. Twenty minutes later we head up I-71. Someone declares Trey's Tour of Truckee a success. There are no ticker tape parades.
