OCC Puts on the Biggest Show Yet

Many, many thanks are due to everyone who came out and helped with both the Kids Bike Race on Saturday and the Smith Dairy Milk Race on Sunday. Both saw record crowds with the kids logging 51 participants and the big folks showing up in the completely unprecedented neighborhood of 170 participants! The best statistic of both days was the fact that we had only one crash in each event and in both cases they were the "get up and ride away" type. I just can't say enough about how well the race is organized and executed each year. Rich Corfman, club VP, Race Director, and Lead Official is the primary man to thank for this. It's a tough job, but he's been doing it since Shep was a pup and seems to get better at it each year! I'm especially proud of the turn-out of all our club members who prepped the course, registered the riders, manned the corners and called out time splits to the boys in red as they suffered by. Thanks again for a great, great day! Thanks to Smith Dairy as title sponsor, and also to The University of Akron Wayne College for setting us up for years with one of the best facilities for pre & post-race activities that I've encountered anywhere. "Showers! You gotta be kidding me!" (Can you imagine what that means to someone who drove from Pittsburgh or Cincy? )

Another thing that deserves a mention is the coverage we received from The Daily Record this year. Reporter Christy Johnson, called me the night before for background, and then came out and watched the entire race, interviewing winners and actually seeing to it that our results were published the very next day along with shots from a staff photographer as well! Here's a link to her story: www.the-daily-record.com/news/article/4644911

Thanks again for helping out!

John, OCC President
