New Albany CR - September 3 - New Albany, Ohio
David Young, 6th Place, Cat 3/4
"Final race of the Rasin Rack Pointa Series I am in 4th place GC and 4th or 5th team, Anthony Patrick has pretty much put away first place and Andy Burns is a solid second. Mark Brown of COBC is 4points ahead of me in 3rd place and I am close to third in team but alone. The other teams are racing with two and three riders. The goal finish high, hope Mark Brown is more than 4 riders back and hope the other teams close on team GC dont place one rider high or two riders top 10. Once again COBC attacks AP with vengence only ten laps into the race the pack is blown all to pieces. I am chaseing two groups of two ahead of me with 4-5 guys sucking my wheel when I blow. Finally one of them pulls thru and a lap later the four ahead of us come together and rather than work together and keep the gap they sit up. A lap later the remaining riders reform the peleton and despite some occasional strong solo attacks that AP rides down no other real breaks develop. So another ! last lap pack sprint on a corse with two 180's and the hardest one 300m from the line. I hit the last turn in fourth and finished fourth. AP wins it all and rightfully so. COBC lost the most with Mark Brown out of the top 10, I move into 3rd on GC and 3rd in the Team. 5 races a 2nd, 2-3rds, 4th and 5th. Add Goremans 4th and OCC didn't finish behind to many riders"
Long Street Tour CR - September 2 - Columbus, Ohio
David Young, 3rd Place, Cat 3/4
"I raced this course last year but Tyler had a suprise in store this year, he added a 180 degree turn to the mix. Throw in cool weather, damp roads and lots of guys hungry for points and a fast race this did make. Right from the start it was COBC vs. Anthony Patrick. COBC threw down attack after attack and AP just kept the motor going riding them all down with little help from the rest of us hangers on. It all came down to postion and speed on the last lap. I hit the 180 in 5th when the guy ahead of me hit his pedal then blew his tire, by the time I extracted myself from that mess the hesitation put me at the head of the pack with a gap to the three leaders, so fourth was a good finish, Well third... The guy that won turned out to be a cat 1 who cant read just like the staff that took his registration $. So final results: AP, Andy Burns, then me."
Chagrin Gran Prix RR - August 27 - Chagrin Falls, Ohio
Michael Gordon, 4th Place Cat 3
David Young, 5th Place, Cat 3/4
"Now that I have some results for the Raisin Rack Points competition I have made it my goal to get on the podium in the overall. I will regret not going to Hillsboro and Springfield, because I am attempting to pass riders scoring points in seven races and only competeing in five. Today Mike Goreman came to help me so I think I will shoot for the team catagory also. The race corse at Chagrin Falls caters to my weakness, hilly with several reaccelerations. I expected COBC to limit damage to Andy Burns their G.C. contender he is a big guy like myself and this is what they did just keep things together. I nailed good position in the last lap going into the last corner third but a bit to fast and found myself in loose straw by the curb so a little speed lost and two riders slip past to bump Mike and I back into 4th and 5th. No big damage only Anthony Patrick was ahead of me on G.C. and he is in a class by himself. The whole COBC finishes behind me so progress up the G.C. is made and a nice boost in the team catagory with Goremans 4th place contribution."
Brent Owens, 3rd Place, Cat 4
"The Chagrin Gran Prix turned out to be an interesting course especially with the damp/wet pavement. While staging for the race I was told by a team-mate to be extra careful on the uphill right turn just past the bridge. The word was - it was very slick and - the first group had already had a crash there. I'm glad I listened! Sure enough, on that uphill right turn down went 3 riders and 3 more were slowed. The remaining 5 of us coasted around the pile-up while taking it easy up the grade to allow any strays to catch back on. Once on, several laps went by with 8 riders, then with some work we dwindled the break down to 4 and then 3 with 5 laps to go. The three of us shared the work, stayed away and sprinted shoulder to shoulder for the finish line. At the line, I ended up 3rd. Although the win would have been nice, I enjoyed the course, competition and the experience gained with racing crits. Nice sprint Paul."
Marysville 3rd Friday CR - August 18 - Marysville, OH
David Young, 3rd Place, Cat 3/4
"Marysville was 40 laps on good to excellent pavement with 40 racers ready to hammer. I just stayed near the front and conserved. The average speed was above 25 and no one team was dominate so nothing managed to stick. I had good legs, good position and some good luck for a 3rd place finish tonight."
OCC Milk Race - August 13 - Orrville, Ohio
Masters 35+
John Lorson, 2nd Place
Michael Gorman, 4th Place
David Young, 5th Place
John - "Well, this one is a little late in coming, but the Master's race in the Milk Race deserves a little air-time. I'm not one to brag, and when it all comes down to it, I'm the one who couldn't "close the deal" for the win in the end, but from a team perspective, it was about as close to perfect as you could get. Dave Young was on the front when the decisive attack took place and I was in the perfect spot to cover it. I knew with Sal Ponzio (a two time Milk Race winner, with at least 3 teammates in the pack) and Baldesare (former National Crit Champ) the chances of this one making it were as good as they get. I jumped and made it across and told Sal "this is it, lets go!" I've been racing with him and the other MVC dudes since before some of the guys racing on Sunday were even born. They're all great guys and tough competitors and it's always a pleasure...
The real secret of our success in the break, however, was the way my teammates, Mike Gorman and Young shut the door behind me. I'm guessing the MVC guys figured big in that, too. Now here's the kicker. It's one thing to control the race, but a cut well above that to be able to send a teammate up the road safely, and then shuck the whole freakin' crowd for a secondary break to bring home both 4th and 5th place for the team! You know, a lot of guys agonize over watts and AT thresholds and all that crap and forget that on race day, the most important thing is knowing what's going on around you and riding your guts out to wind up in front at the end of the day. I'm very proud of the way our Masters team did at this year's race (2nd, 4th, and 5th place) and, and very, very thankful for the way we train, work and win (well, almost) together. Thanks dudes. I owe ya!"

Fenster - "First, hats off to Rich Corfman and John and the rest of the volunteers, troopers, etc. for putting on a great race. Lots of positive comments from the participants.
This was a really fun race with some actually strategy and great team tactics. Our defending champ from last year, Wes Jones, went out early with a flat so our team strategy changed mid-race. Our other two strong climbers on the team, Paul Kinney and Brett Owens (a new recruit and regular on the A rides) asked me what my plan was and I just said I'm going on Chippewa. So with perfection Paul goes to the front at the base of Chippewa and drills it, I follow and drill some more and Brett follows me up the hill and around the corner. Only Don Bunker of Stark was able to follow and we worked like mad to build a gap that would hold to the line. The rest of the Orrville and Stark riders kept the chase group at bay (great work guys!!) and it ended up in 3-up sprint to the line with the pack closing fast. Unfortunately Brett and I were blown from all the work and well, Don was just too strong up the short incline to the finish. Great work by the Orrville and Stark riders in keeping the pace fast throughout the race and blocking the chase pack. Sorry we couldn't bring it home for victory but next time!!"

Summit Freewheelers TOP TT - August 9 - Cuyahoga Valley, Peninsula, OH
Michael Gorman, 5th Place Overall, 22:42
"I wanted to give Paul Martin an advantage (yeah, right) so I decided to try out the new OCC Trek track bike decked out with my aero wheels from my regular ride. Paul smoked me (all of us) but I posted a time faster than the early summer TT on my real TT bike. 22:42 @ 26.43 mph"
Zoar Festival RR - August 6 - Zoar, Ohio

Michael - "The final race in my Favorite series. Can't wait for the next one."
Waldo Firemans Festival Criterium - July 22 - Waldo, Ohio
David Young, 2nd Place, Cat 3/4
"I woke up early to go to Shreve and checked the weather radar Green over half of the state. 50 miles of wheel spray is a good reason to sleep in and check back later. By 11:00am My third choice was in the clear so it was off to Waldo because Troy was to far to drive. Waldo was a short fast crit with fast clean corners. The finish was down hill into a brisk headwind perfect for a big guy. At the start Andy Burns looked to be my only problem. So the plan was to cover him and let the rest go, and thus the race went for 42 laps 16 became 5, I led out the sprint from the last corner, if you can come around you deserve the win, and Andy got be by half a wheel at the line. Good job Burns."
Chapel Crit Series #2 at The Chapel in Green - July 13 - Green, Ohio
Michael Gorman, 7th Place, A Race
"With my hand screwed up I knew I couldn't sprint so I tried to get away and break things up but couldn't hold on for that eithrt. John and I were agressive and John got away for a while but was realed back in after a few laps. I tried a last lap suicide and failed. John pipped me at the line for 6th and 7th."
GP of Groveport TT - July 16 - Groveport, Ohio
Michael Gorman, 3rd Place, 52:21, Cat 1-3
"Jim Matson and COBC Put on a nice TT with a course that was rolling, some flat sections and a few false flats. Luckily I started behind 6 or more women. Gave me plenty of rabbits and scenery. I gave it all I had but 2 others (Matson was one) gave more and left me in the dust back in 3rd. (and 3rd overall)"

Joel Schmidt, 3rd Place, Citizens
Brian - "A pre-race shower made for wet road at the start but we didn't get rained on. Field of about 18 racers. We had a five man breakaway that was then reduced to four for the finish. I need to improve my race tactics, sprinting ability or find a race with a hill closer to the finish line.>
Steve Fenster, DNF, Masters 35+
"Was leading the race going into the final 1k but followed the pace car to Massillon instead of the finish line. DNF. Cate redeemed my error by winning the 10K running race (4th overall)."
Cate Fenster, 10K, 4th Overall
Ohio State Time Trials - June 25 - Cuyahoga Valley, Peninsula, Ohio
Michael Gorman, 1st Place @ 55:57, Cat 3
"The Freewheelers did an excellent job and had the results faily quick and the weather was perfect. I thought I was having a realy bad day and figured to have been smoked by even the junior riders. My time was well below my goal but my benchmark (Rudy Sroka) was just in front of me so I guess I was doing ok. I was 4th overall behind a very quick Matt Weeks (Lake Effect) who seems to be spending too much time learning from Rudy! Matt smoked the entire field with a 55:20, not bad for a Cat. 4!"
Grandview Road Race - June 24 - Grandview, Ohio
Steve Fenster, 3rd Place, Masters 35+
Wes Jones, 4th Place, Masters 35+

"Shorter and a lot flatter than some whimps let us to beleive. Lots of suffering and cramping with a small bit of wind to help keep you slightly cooler than a blast furnace. Next year's race is on my calendar..."
Steve Fenster, 3rd Place, 1:24:21 (Mass Sprint) Cat 4
"...Two riders got on my wheel and I just kept hammering the pace to avoid getting caught by the hungry pack of riders behind me. Just before the corner, the two riders went around me and I was not able to follow quickly enough but still finished strong for 3rd place. Congrats to Mike from Stark for the win. Joel and Wes finished right behind me with the field after working their butts off all day to chase breaks and string out the pack. Also, kudos to Noah of Allied, Randy of Savage Hill, Isiah of Echelon and that COBC rider for always pushing the pace and racing hard. Lessons learned: I need to work on my descending skills (I almost got dropped once) and learn some better race tactics. Overall an awesome weekend of riding with a great group of guys. Thanks OCC!!"

David Young, 6th Place, Masters 35+
Wes Jones, 20th, +:59, Cat 4

John Lorson, 5th Place (Mass Sprint), Cat 3
Michael Gorman, 20th (Mass Sprint), Cat 3
David Young, 29th (led 2nd sprint group), Cat 3
"Needed my disc braked cross bike with 30c tires for curb crushing. I don't mind rough roads but the only smooth parts were the straights. All but one turn had a curb transition into or out of a parking lot or holes. Hit one pedal and one street sign. Turned my brake pads into a crispy mess trying to out-brake the competition."
Steve Fenster, 12th (Mass Sprint), Cat 4
Wes Jones, Field, Cat 4
"Went really hard from the start spent the first two laps on the front trying to stay safe. Ended up 13th after being pushed to the back by moves by a Team Dayton guy who might just be the most dangerous guy i have ever raced against."
Tour of Malabar Farms - June 10 - Lucas, Ohio
Steve Fenster, 1st Place Cat 4
"Wes and Joel summed it up well. Great team tactics and a nice vertical finish much to the liking of a pint-sized rider. My first ever win in a bike race!!"
Wes Jones, 4th Place, Cat 4
"Malabar Farms for the third time this year. This time though, the finish was on the hill, Which is a great when you have a guy like Steve. After 30 miles of attacking and counter attacking (with three guys) the field was down to about 7 riders when an OSU rider thought he won the race. Only thing is, we still had ten miles to go. This did however, set up the break that would see Steve win a two up sprint up the hill. Then that same OSU guy beat me up the hill. Big props go to Joel S. who was a huge factor all day by working his tail off and then attacking at the end to set me up for the sprint. occ took total control of this race and at the end had 3 guys in the top 7."
Joel Schmidt, 7th Place, Cat 4
"I joined Wes and Steve in the Cat 4 race which we were able to dominate and easily control. Steve had a great victory after riding away from his breakaway companion. Wes and I blocked in the final miles and did a few attacks, and then Wes got 4th. To have 3 riders in the top 7 is an example of excellent teamwork and strength. I thought we rode an awesome race."
Mohican 100K MTB - June 3 - Mohican S.P., Loudonville, Ohio
Michael Gorman, 4th Place, 6:57:34, Open Category
"Hilly, Muddy and Wet. Got lost a few times, crashed even more. HR maxed out at 204, averaged 155."
Wes Jones, 8th Place, 7:35:00
"Whole bunch of pain"
Yellow Springs Road Race - May 28 - Yellow Springs, Ohio
David Young, 3rd Place, Cat 4
"I didn't recognize but one other rider in the 3/4 field so it was cover everything that looked serious. The course had a climb, not too steep but long enough to hurt, then some windy rollers, a drop, hard right, hard left, then do the climb again. The pack split soon after the first climb and all the horsepower seemed to be present at the front and willing to pull. So we layed it down and stayed together until the last time up the climb whittled the break down to 8 or 9. Now Tyler had us routed back into Yellow Springs for 5 laps around a short tight campus oval. Position, position, position. Make a mistake and lose, or worse, eat pavement. I hit the oval in third for good position then lost it when the guy on front expired and trapped me from passing just as the guy behind me passed us both and attacked hard. I held off the guys behind for third. My mistake."

"Tough race in the rain and cold early in the morning."
Powerman RR - May 20 - Malabar Farm, Ohio
John Lorson, 3rd Place, Cat 1-3
"Thank God for the hill! If not for that baby I would've had a hard time with the Cat 1's. Gravity is the great equalizer I guess. This race was won by a 16-year-old wonderkid but I found it just a little cool that I damn near beat someone young enough to be my kid! Nice pay-out, too!"
Wes Jones, 2nd Place, Cat 4
"Very cool race with a hill. Promoter lied (big hill)"
OMBC Mohican - May 7 - Mohican Wilderness, Loudonville, Ohio
